Hello Readers : )
Today I have a special Blog Hop for you.
Fellow Inkspeller T. Michelle Nelson asked those participating in the Blog Hop tour for her upcoming release, The Life and Death of Lily Drake, to talk about vampires and I jumped at the opportunity to join in the fun.
Vampires: Sexy or not?
As a child, vampires used to be a source for nightmares rather than fascination. Images of pale looking figures with fangs the size of saber tooth’s popped into my head every time someone so much as mentioned the word vampire.
Once I grabbed a hold of my very first vampire novel, that image changed drastically. Suddenly, vampires were no longer scary creatures that preyed on innocent women in order to suck them dry (most times anyway). Now they were sexy creatures, appealing even. You know, the kind of bad boy every girl likes, and their father’s worst nightmare too.
In my opinion, it was safe to say that I viewed these fascinating creatures differently because of the way they were depicted in this novel. It was almost as if the author was telling me that it was okay to see them as human beings with dark gifts rather than just blood sucking monsters.
Through the years however, I came to the understanding that people’s opinions may or not be affected by how they are portrayed either in books, comics, or even movies. While some may think of them as evil demons hell-bent on destroying human kind, others may see them as delectable hotties, too tempting to resist.
Of course, the proof in all of this is out there for all to see. The variation in how these potentially deadly creatures are presented to the general public is astonishing. In the last decade alone the numbers of vampire movies and novels have tripled. And it seems everyone has their own opinion of what a vampire should be like.
Mine however, hasn’t changed much from years back. While I enjoy a good vampire flick where they are presented as blood lusting lunatics, when I envision a vampire, I see someone alluring, mesmerizing, and even captivating. To me, the thought of a vampire falling in love with a human is gratifyingly fascinating.
No, I don’t mean to sound cliché. But, who doesn’t like a good romance novel where the main element is the forbidden love between the main characters, especially if one of them is a drop dead gorgeous vamp.
In conclusion, whether sexy or not, vampires have become the latest trend, and it seems that people can’t get enough of these blood drinking creatures. In all honesty, my infatuation with these creatures has grown as I’ve matured and will remain that way long after I’ve aged.
